African-American participation in baseball, at any level, is a deeply personal subject for me. Growing up, I was usually the only black player on the team. I had great teammates, but I always wondered why more blacks didn’t play America’s Pastime; I also wonder, as the percentage continues to decline, whether or not anything can be done to reverse the trend. The NFL MVP Race Is Between Matt Ryan And Aaron Rodgers, So Here’s Who Wins It

Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers thought the Packers could run the table after getting trounced by Washington in Week 11. Green Bay did just that in winning their final six games and the NFC North. (Photo: Washington Times)

There have been a lot of names thrown out regarding this seasons NFL MVP award. Ezekiel “Zeke” Elliott. David Johnson. Tom Brady. All of them have been discussed and all of that discussion had merit.

Emphasis on ‘had’.  (more…)

Imagine, for a moment, that someone knocked on your door with a stunning new Porsche. It has all the bells and whistles one would expect a luxury vehicle to have. Leather seats, a custom sound system, the perfect shade of black (or red, or blue) paint. But it has no engine or wheels.  (more…)

Lana Berry has done something pretty cool. She’s a social media consultant with a personal following of over 100,000 on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Her love of sports and social media (particularly baseball) has allowed her to meet, interact, and gain credibility with industry professionals. What she’s also done is built enough credibility within the industry to write an E-Book titled “Getting The Call: How To Land Your Dream Job In Sports”, which compiles answers from over 100 of those industry professionals on how they landed their jobs. I struggled for a couple days before I sat down to write about Colin Kaepernick’s decision not to stand during the national anthem. In the end I still might not say everything right, but I’m not going to let that deter me from expressing my feelings about the situation. (more…)

The 2016 NFL season has begun and, despite me doing an awesome podcast (which you should all subscribe to and review here), I will in fact be doing fantasy football writing this year.

I know, you’re welcome. (more…)

Ep. 13: Blair Walsh, Minnesota Vikings Kicker

BoS-Logo-iTunes

When talking to Minnesota Vikings Kicker Blair Walsh you get the sense of a man that is focused on what’s ahead. He’s moved past last season, and is primed for a big season for a Vikings team with high expectations. In other words, he’s got the right mindset to play what can sometimes be a very unforgiving position. Most of that is because he knows what’s important, which is a testament to his strong family and support system. Blair, statistically, is a top-5 Kicker in the National Football League since he debuted in 2012. At age 22, he was named 1st Team All-Pro in the NFL (the only rookie on the team that year) and set numerous Viking and NFL records along the way. In 2015, he made almost 97% of the Extra Points he attempted and almost 86% of the Field Goals he attempted. (more…)
